Peru has an estimated population of 28 million people. Aproximately one
third live in the capital city – Lima. These Limeños live
in a patchwork of neigborhoods including everything from shantytowns
to luxury apartment buildings.
Conveniences
There are several malls (one of the largest just a ten minute drive from MCS, another on the nearby beach), many fast food restaurants including McDonalds, Pizza Hut, KFC, Burger King, Dunkin' Donuts, etc.
There are supermarkets with a wide variety of products available, including many American favorites.
Cuisine
Peruvian food has been rated as some of the best in the world for several years. There is tremendous variety. Fresh fruits and vegetables are quite inexpensive and widely available.
Transportation
Buses and taxis are readily available.
Climate
Peru has three distinct regions – jungle, mountains, and coastal desert. Lima is located on the western coast of Peru. There are basically two seasons – hot and not or sunny and cloudy. The hottest months are January, February, and March. Many head to nearby beaches during those months.
MCS's summer vacation runs from shortly before Christmas until early March. October, November, April, and May are generally pleasant months. The weather from June- September is not cold by North American standards, but due to high humidity, sweaters and jackets are normal attire.
